THEODORE BIKEL - Songs of Russia Old and New (EKL-185)12" LP. Original Elektra Records release from USA, 1960. Songs of New Russia arranged
and conducted by FRED HELLERMAN. Jacket notes state: "Each side of this album presents — musically — a different face of Russia: The Old and the New; that is to say, Russia before the revolution and after."
No insert, small promo stamp on back. Side one is songs of old Russia while
side 2 is songs of new Russia. 14 tracks including: Songs Of Old Russia: Pomnyu Ya (I Remember), Yamshchik
Gani-Ka K Yard (Coachman, Away to the Fair), Noch Tikha (Quiet Night), Polso Bylo Lyublyatse (I Never Meant To Love), Gari Gari Maya Zvyezda (Twinkle, Twinkle, My Star), Chupchik (Curly Forelock), Vyechenry Zvon (Evening Bells).

Various flamenco singers accompanied on guitars by Paco de Atequera and Manolo
de Jerez. Flamenco fandangos, bulerias, tangos, rumbas etc. 12 tracks
including: Sevillanas Del Perdon, Bien Lo Hiciste, Sevillanas De La Nina, Como
Equivocas and others. Jacket has a small corner cutout.

VARIOUS ARTISTS - Turkish Delight, New Sounds From The Near East (MFS 481)12" LP. Monitor Records, USA, stereo release, no date, most
likely late 1960s. Jacket notes state: "...represents a fascinating
cross-section of Turkish folk music. Side two contains the more characteristic
sound of the Turkish instruments as well as the peculiar melisma of the
vocalists. Side one... presents Turkish Gypsy musicwith the more modern use of
guitar, accordion and percussion as well as a Gypsy-style vocal
approach...". The bands are credited as The Urosevich Ensemble, The Stevo
Teodosievski Ensemble, The Dolgru Yol Turkish Ensemble. 14 tracks in all, a
very collectible LP, vinyl looks almost unplayed. |

late 1960s. Famed gypsy singer Esma Redzepova, aka Gypsy Esma the Stevo
Teodosievski Ensemble. Classic east European gypsy music, includes several of
the tracks that made Esma famous. 12 tracks including: Beautiful Girl (Caje Sukarije), Esma's Song (Esma Kiri Gilli), I Curse You Mother (Hajri Mate Diki Daje) and 9 others.

Records release from Lebanon. Stereo, no date.
"Matar Mohammed plays the Arabic bozok, or bouzouk) and was one of the greatest exponent of the instrument. Born a Nawar, or bedou from the Syrian Lebanese desert he was a self-taught genius who recorded only 2 highly regarded LPs, before dying in poverty."
12 tracks in all. This is a lovely stereo copy of a rare and wondrous LP.

The oud: one of the oldest plucked instruments originally found in the ancient Egyptian tombs.

Folk Festival, Nyon, Switzerland, in 1983 (LP released in 1984). Gatefold
jacket in near mint condition. Teka ensemble are one of Hungary's leading folk
groups who play mainly traditional Transylvanian folk and dance music on
violin, tambura, hurdy-gurdy, bass etc. Fiery folk music from a long
