SOCARRAS AND HIS ORCHESTRA Cha Cha Chas and Mambos (DL 8836)12" LP. USA Decca mono release, no date but 1950s. Cha Cha Chas and
Mambos from the "musician's musician". Alberto
Socarras is credited as the first Cuban flute player in jazz and one of the
first to start an orchestra performing latin music in New York city. His flute
playing and arrangements are often praised highly by more modern latin
musicians. 12 tracks including: Tea For Two Cha Cha, Sixty Second Mambo, A- You're Adorable, Nervous Gavotte Mambo, Hal's Cha Cha Cha, Mambo Impromptu, Algun Dia and others.
Jacket open but still in shrink, has two small bullet holes, vinyl looks brand
new. |

12" LP. Recorded in Mexico City and released on the Starlight label
from early 1950s. Mambo instrumentals, 12 in all, including: Mambo In Seville,
Mambo Flamenco,. Bullfighter's Mambo, Tippy Roe Mambo and others. Vinyl has
spiral scratch affecting 2 tracks side 2, otherwise very good. |

early 1950s, on the Columbia label, USA. Columbia Mono '360 Sound' release. Cha

Santanero, El Botones, Viva Mi Companera and others. |

born Jose Melis was a well-loved personality and pianist whose Cuban accent
endeared him to many fans. He was bandleader for Jack Paar's 'Tonight' show
from 1957 to 1962 in the US. 12 tracks including: Am I Blue, Curacao, Harbour
Lights, My Ship, Over The Rainbow and others. Nice fresh copy. |

DON AZPIAZU - Es Don Azpiazu (FLP-54)12" LP. Ex vocalist with Antobal's latin All Stars, Don Azpiazu
relocated to New York, sang at the Roseland Dance City there, and recorded this
LP for the Bronx based Fifi Records label (no date). Seems to have re-worked a
couple of Antobal tracks to their detriment. Descendent of the Azpiazu who led
the Cuban music invasion across the globe in the 1930s. 10 songs including:
Marisol, Porque, Quiero Volver A Cuba, Penetro and others. |

Dorsey's death. Here they scored a hit tackling the new dance craze the

PERCY FAITH AND HIS ORCHESTRA - Mucho Gusto! Viva! (CG 33606)12" LP. Columbia release from the USA. Two albums ( Mucho Gusto!
and Viva!) issued as a gatefold double with Percy Faith and his Orchestra
tackling Latin American standards as was the custom of the day. Here this is
more a tribute to the music of Mexico. 24 tracks including: Granada, La
Cucaracha, Mucho Gusto, Perfidia and others. Jacket has cutout slot. |
