Released in 1976 on the Cotique label (a Fania subsidiary), Frankie Dante and his Orchestra Flamboyan is joined by Charlie Palmieri, Tito Puente, Ricardo Marrero and Mark Dimond. A swinging trombone and trumpet led band with few equals. Tracks include: Ciencia Politica, Me Voy Pa' Pinar Del Rio, La Coquetona Part II and 6 others. | <<< <<< | ||||||
 |  | Ray Gonzalez Y Su Banda - Ray Gonzalez Y Su Banda (LPS 1041)12" LP. Rare album released in Puerto Rico on the Borincano label, no date but most likely 1970s. Rootsy swinging salsa, son, guaguanco band led by trumpeter Ray Gonzalez. Two trumpets, conga, piano, timables etc, with guest Eddie Martinez on piano (piano player with Ray Barretto). Vocals are by Tommy Cachi Perez and William Rivera. 10 songs including: Boco Boco, Guillate, La Habana Vieja, Toma Mi Corazon, Navidad Pronto Llegara, El Rey Chango and others.  |  | Monguito - El Unico (TLP613)12" LP. From the magnificent Monguito, aka 'El Unico', real name Ramón Quian. This release is from 1982 and is on the Toboga label, USA. Monguito led and sang some of the best salsa ever recorded. Every collection should have at least one of his releases. Truly one of Cuba's greatest soneros and easily the best salsa ever recorded. 6 nice long tracks including: Mexico Lindo, Rumberos De Ayer, NoLe Llamen Salsa A Mi Son etc.Open but with original shrink wrapping. | <<< <<< | ||||||

Hard to find rare very early 1970s (?) release from piano player Pijuan (Juan Pedro González Piñero) and his sextet, with Paquito Alvarez on vocals. Funky montunos and guaguanco from popular Puerto Rican band. 10 tracks including: Rebeldia, Tu Son,- Campesino, Para La Pata, Viudita De Baranoa, Ayer Me Dijeron Negro, Culpable, Rosita, Cancion Para Mi Hijo, Nostalgia. Pianist Hector Rivera is joined by Cachao on bass, Luis Mangual on bongo, Jose Madera on timbales, Hector Zarzuela on trumpet, and several other excellent musicians.
