OCHO - Ocho II (LT-LA065-D)12" LP. Fantastic album produced by the legendary Bobby Marin in 1973. On the UA Latino label, original USA issue. Ocho were led by vibes and piano player Chico Mendoza who had a firm grasp of where salsa music came from and where it was destined to go. Musicians here
include: Charlie Palmieri, Adalberto Santiago, Jimmy Sabater, Ismael Quintana, Manny Roman, and a host of other greats.
An essential LP for any salsa music collector. Tracks include 'La
Batanga', 'Guaguanco En Tropicana', 'Last tango in Paris', 'Descarga
Con Bajo' and 4 others.

York. 1978 release from New Jersey, USA on the El Sonido Records

GRUPO NICHE - Triunfo (222 00496)12" LP. Codiscos Records, Colombia release from 1985, recorded in
New York. Salsa band Grupo Niche was founded by Jairo Varela and Alexis Lozano in Colombia in the 1970s. Later Lozano left to form Orquesta Guayacan, leaving Varela in charge.
8 tracks including: Ana Mile, Las Flores Tambien Se Mueren, Listo Medellin, Cicatrices, Del Puente Pa' Alla, Interes Cuanto Vales, Mama Chila, La Fiera. |

LA SENSUAL - La Sensual (LP725)12" LP. Salsa International Records, USA release from 1981. New York charanga outfit
also known as Charanga Sensual were form in the Bronx in the late 1970s. The
band is led by Orlando Aviles and features Chombo Silva, Hector Leguillow, Nelson Torres, Mike Rodriguez and others.
8 tracks including: Sarampion, La Sensuaidad, Camarones Y Mamoncillos, Maricusa, Teresa, Lo Que Triago Es Salsa, El Hilo Del Panton, Tengo Frio.

ANDRE'S CUBAN ALL STARS, JACK COSTANZA - Afro-Cubano (MGN-1067)12" LP. Side b is Cuban stars: Bebo Valdes, Alejandro
'El Negro' Vivar, Gustavo Mas, Guillermo 'Bill' Barreto and others.
These sessions, recorded by Norman Granz, are credited (by salsa
music historian Max Salazar) as the first Cuban descargas (jam
session) recorded in the USA. These 5 tracks are the complete
session. Truly historical recordings. Side a is 6 tracks by the Jack
Costanza and his orchestra, more great music. This is on the Norgran
Records label (yellow label). No date, but the sessions were
recorded in 1952.

LOS CUBAZTECAS - Du Rythme (G 33-11)12" LP. Latin music made in France. Released on the French label
Disques Typic, no date but looks 1950s or 60s. Most likely a Paris based band
tackling the cha cha cha and son, these rhythms popular there from the 1940s
onwards. |

who worked with the likes of Arsenio Rodriguez. Here he leads a
stellar band playing Cuban music in the style of Arsenio. No date
