West coast vibes player Montez was always someone who delivered some great Afro-Cuban music no matter what the material he was covering. Yet another not to be overlooked classic mambo, chacha, guaguanco etc LP from Bobby Montez and his quintet. 11 tracks, 6 from My Fair Lady and 5 from Gigi. Classic conjunto sound from a band led by bass player Ray Martinez, with vocals by Charlie Romero. Later releases would be credited as Ray Martinez y su Conjunto Tipico Criollo. Excellent band playing salsa dura and guaguanco. 9 tracks including: Mi Vecinta, Eso No Es Amigo, Don Antonio, Al Paso Del Guaguanco, Elena, Ven Sonero, El Calvo, Cantare, Alegria. Rare original Puerto Rican pressing LP with musical direction by Alfredo Padilla and William Puchi. Features vocalists Leo Pacheco, Fredy Nieto and Carlos "El Grande". 10 tracks including: Ya Llegue, El Pagare, Quien la Tumbo, Cuidadito Compay Gallo, El Santo Nombre, El Dolor Campesino, El Guarachero, Si Tu No la Otra, Popurri Infantil, Con Mana Si. | <<< <<< | ||||||
 |  | La Salsa Mayor - Nuestra Orquesta (LPV-1787)12" LP. A 1978 release from Peru, origiasnlly on the Velvet label, this pressing is from the Peruvian label Infopesa. Rare debut(?) LP from a band formed in Venezuela, Nuestra Orquesta rivaled Dimension Latina, Oscar D'Leon etc, forming at a high point in 1970s salsa in Venezuela. "In 1978, allegedly for economic reasons, seven of the musicians who formed the template of Salsa Mayor Oscar D'Leon (Leo Pacheco, Alfredo Padilla, Miguel Pacheco, William Puchi, Felipe Blanco, Jose "Pipo" Perez and Henry Camba), decide to separate to form another group initially to be named the Salsa Supreme, but ultimately decided to keep the name of "Nuestra Orquesta Salsa Mayor", this of course, brought a huge legal battle with the devil Salsa Oscar D'Leon, who by the way very quickly assembled by a new orchestra..." Whatever the histroy this is salsa at it's best. Criollo Records was part of Latin Percussion Ventures. 2 trumpets, piano, percussion etc making for some excellent salsa. 8 tracks including: Cache, Margarita, La Carta, Tanto Esperando, Aprovechalp Maria, Por Que, Verdad, No Vayas a Pensar. Jacket open but still in shrink. Red vinyl looks very clean and unplayed. Lovely copy of a rare latin record. | <<< <<< | ||||||

Dominican trumpet player LaBasta has played with all the big names in latin music since moving to New York city in the early 1960s. In addition to this he has led his own salsa band on several albums, performing strong guaguanco material. 8 tracks incuding: La Ultima Copa, Se Me Olvido Otra Vez, Lluvia En La Tarde, Buenas Noches Cheche, Juanito El Del Caney, Sera Por Eso, Panama, El Tiempo.
