 |  | | Format: Vinyl LP album. Santero Records, USA release, from 1983. Yoruba and Lucumi Afro-Cuban cult music from bata drummers led by Onelio Scull. Onelio Scull is one of the most revered Afro Cuban percussionists. In the early 1960s he was one of the first drummers to start playing and teaching Santeria bata in the United States. His recordings, made in the 1960s, have now achieved cult status and were rarely available outside the Santera religious sects. This pressing is from 1983 but the recordings have that classic 1950s-60s Afro-Cuban feel with group vocals accompanied by heavy bata drumming. Singers inlude: Domingo Gomez, Maximo Texidor, Julia Valdes, Jun Candela, Mercedita Rojas, Nicolas Hernandez, Patato, Justi Barreto. Tambores Bata musicians include: Onelio Scull, Angel Gomez, Julito Collazo and Carlos Patao Valdes. 10 tracks including: Fiesta Para Babalu San Lazaro, Fiesta Para Chango Santa Barbara, Fiesta Para Agallu San Cristobal, Fiesta Para Elegua El Nino De Atocha, Fiesta Para Yemaya La Virgen De Regla, Fiesta Para Oinle Santa Marta, Fiesta Para Ochun La Virgen De la Caridad Del Cobre, Fiesta Para Ochosi San Norberto, Fiesta Para Obatala La Virgen De Las Mercedes, Fiesta Para Ogun San Pedro. This album is one of those classics, the jacket is a little yellowed but in great shape. The vinyl looks unplayed.

Rare original 1950s(?) volume 1, 'Santero Volume 2' is the more well known second volume. Panart label on record is the dull black version. Credits on songs include Eduardo Davidson, Yoyo Casteleiro, and Obdulio Morales (with his songs 'Pregon' and 'Nika'), and others. 12 tracks including: El Bombon De Elena, Elegua - Inkio, Tu Alma Negra, Filomena, Negra Mau Mau, Pregon, Yerbero Moderno, Ochun Del Cobre, El Agua De Belen, Pasito Y Medio, Nika, Baila Que Se Paso. Small pieces of clear tape neatly on corners, edges solid and not at all worn, slight shelf wear but nothing serious. Lovely copy of a rare record. Vinyl looks unplayed!

Many of the songs are taken from the Cuban Santeria religion. The producer was Gina Martin, the label GR is Gina Records. Gina Martin worked for many years in Cuba as singer with Obdulio Morales and Celina Y Reutilio. Lost in obscurity after the revolution until achieving something of a resurgence when Latin Xpress re-worked and collaborated with her, the single 'Chango' being the result. 8 tracks including: Iroco, Orichaoco, Chango, Inle, Agayu, Ochun, Dada, Baba Fururu.
