GIRARDO RODRIGUEZ Y SUS TAMBORES ANA -
Rituales AfroCubanos Lucumi (LP-12-178)
12" LP. No date but looks 1950s or early 60s release of a
stunning album. Manufactured in Mexico and released on the Orfeon
label. . This LP being released first in Mexico and then re-issued
several times (with alternative titles) in the USA and Colombia.
Later issues have variant titles such as 'Afro Ritmos Afrocubanos
Tambores Batá', and with Girardo written as Giraldo. It is very
likely that this is a first issue, or at the very least an early
issue. All that said the LP has 12 tracks of authentic and powerful
Afro Cuban percussion. Tracks include Eleggua, Oggun, Drume Negrita,
Yemaya, Babalu Aye etc. Vinyl looks hardly played and in great
condition, jacket is good condition with only minor splits and a
little staining.
For more of the history of this recording see thisweb
page. They say "..The Orfeon company has to be credited for
having produced a great, important record of historical
significance. The ensemble of Giraldo Rodríguez plays with a high
degree of accuracy and precision. The swing on certain tracks and
passages is exemplary... ... The sound quality of the recording is
remarkable..."

ANTOBALS LATIN ALL STARS UNDER THE DIRECTION OF OBDULIO MORALES
-
Pachanga (BL754104)
12" LP. Stereo. Superb Cuban big band with no equal. Antobal
(brother of Cuban Don Azpiazu of The Peanut Vendor fame) put
together what was probably the best Cuban big band ever bar none.
Under the direction of Obdulio Morales, who would later go on the
head Radio Suaritos in Havana and compose many Afro-Cuban pieces,
there are such musicians as: El Negro Vivar on trumpet, Generoso
Jimenez on trombone, Peruchin on piano, Guillermo 'Barretico'
Barreto on percussion, Oscar Valdes on percussion, and many more of
Cuba's finest. To top it all we have Gina Martin on vocals giving
one of her best performances on the title track La Pachanga. A
stereo copy of this LP in amazing condition. Only one minor defect
visible and that is a small bullet hole which is only on the back
jacket cover (not thru to the front), that said you would hardly
notice it.
